Christopher Conti, MD, has been a practicing physician for over two decades, bringing a wealth of experience to SMART® from his very diverse background working in a wide variety of settings including hospitals, emergency rooms, and community health clinics. Dr. Conti served as Chief Medical Officer for Primary Care Health Services, Inc., the largest Federally Qualified Health Center in Pittsburgh, which hosts nine specific sites and an additional two sites that are partnered with Healthcare for the Homeless and dedicated to the homeless population in Pittsburgh. He holds special sports medicine certifications in Impact Science and has been a Team Physician for the U.S. Soccer Federation since 2018. Most recently, Dr. Conti became a designated Aviation Medical Examiner (AME) for the Federal Aviation Administration where he certifies the health and fitness of pilots and air traffic controllers.
Dr. Conti is a key advisor to Ginn Group Collaborative (GGC) CEO, Melanie Ginn, her executive leadership team, and internal and external stakeholder groups. With a passion for children that aligns with SMART®’s “Students First” mantra and Whole Child 360 approach, his clinical expertise and commitment allows GGC to build on the almost decade-long establishment, growth, and evolution of the SMART® Model as a disrupter to struggling systems, transforming lives as a key partner with educators. Dr. Conti is engaged in building on the institutional knowledge, experiences, and track record of existing SMART® Clinics and holds an Unrestricted Medical License in each state where SMART® operates. This license allows him to provide direct care and mentorship to our Medical Provider Partner’s SMART® Clinic teams and students.
Working with the talented, interdisciplinary GGC National SMART® Team, Dr. Conti supports the overall clinical vision for our organization, leading in fidelity to SMART® fundamentals and imperatives. Additionally, he collaborates with our Certified Medical Provider Partner organizations to align vision, policies, and protocols to inform best outcomes for students and ensure sustainability at our multi-state SMART® Clinic sites. Dr. Conti provides clinical oversight, expertise, and leadership to ensure the delivery of the most efficacious, high impact, population-centered, cost-effective, integrative health care services that are consistent with the established evidence-based standards of the innovative SMART® Model. His breadth of expertise in emergency and pandemic care for underserved populations positions him well for this role within SMART®.
Dr. Conti received his Bachelor of Science in Zoology from Howard University and his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Maryland School of Medicine. Following his medical residency in 2001, Dr. Conti served as a Major in the United States Air Force Reserves. He was deployed for Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom as part of the Critical Care Air Transport Team (CCATT), responsible for caring for and transporting wounded soldiers and civilians from within the combat theater into hospitals.
